Frankfurt, 20 Oct. 2016 – Day three of the Frankfurt Book Fair is approaching and brings along numerous exciting highlights and events: In the morning the press conference with Carolin Emcke, recipient of the Peace Prize 2016, will take place. The topic of this year’s Weltempfang is “Europe!”: Flight and migration, integration, and freedom of speech are only some topics that will be discussed on stage at the Weltempfang and at the LitCam on Friday. For those who want to learn more about Virtual Reality and the potential and possibilities of this new technology, there are several events taking place at the new THE ARTS+ area in hall 4.1. The day closes with the award ceremony of the 60th German Children’s Literature Award.

Press conference with Carolin Emcke, recipient of the Peace Prize 2016

With: Carolin Emcke, recipient of this year's Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, and Heinrich Riethmüller, President of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association. The talk will be in German, translated simultaneously into English.

Hot Spot Tour to the future of publishing: Hot Spots Education and Publishing Services

A guided tour to the Frankfurt Hot Spots, and a meet & greet with the exhibitors. Meeting point is the lounge at the Hot Spot Education (Hall 4.2 / C90). Registration: hotspots@book-fair.com

Future Date: How VR Will Change the Creative Business
THE ARTS+ Salon,
At the expert talk on Friday, organised in cooperation with the EDFVR, VR experts such as Sven Häberlein (VR Producer / Film Director, CEO, Trotzkind GmbH), Michael Hooper (General Manager, Text International GmbH) and Arne Ludwig (Managing Director, Headtrip and Chairman EDFVR) discuss the potential and the possibilities of VR technology in the creative business.
Fair visitors can also witness how 360° VR videos are created during interactive product presentations of the KODAK Pixpro 360/4K Action Cam (THE ARTS+ Runway, Hall 4.1 / P53).

Communication and the Internet – Panel discussion (German/English)

Freedom of opinion is a fundamental European value. The diversity of opinion
promised by the Internet has long since overstepped the bounds of tolerance and
quality around the world. Is freedom of speech degenerating into a cultural and
political witch hunt, one that debases the equally prized value of dignity? Limitless
communication on an Internet without limits: is this something worth aspiring to?
With: Timothy Garton Ash (United Kingdom), writer; historian; most recent work “Free Speech: Ten Principles for a Connected World” (Atlantic Books 2016) and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pörksen (Germany), professor of media studies at the University of Tübingen; most recent work “Kommunikation als Lebenskunst” (Carl-Auer Verlag 2014; “Communication as a Life Skill”, not available in English translation).

Comics and graphic novels reception

Publishers, illustrators, authors, literary agents and anyone who has anything to do with comics and graphic novels is invited to attend the reception. You can network, chat and meet new business partners over free snacks and drinks. Attendees include Jutta Harms (Reprodukt), David Boller (Virtual Graphics), Wolfgang Strzyz (author of Comics im Buchhandel [Comics in Bookstores]) and many more.

German Children's Literature Award 2016 - Award Presentation
Congress Center, level 2, room Harmonie, fair grounds
Announcement of this year’s award recipients as selected by the expert jury and the young adult jury, as well as the recipient of the special award given for the lifetime achievement of a German author. The German Children’s Literature Award is celebrating its 60th birthday. The event is in German, simultaneous translation into English will be available. Indiecon Night at the Booklounge – Frankfurt Book Fair’s after-show
AMP, Gallusanlage 2, Frankfurt
A place to meet, exchange ideas and celebrate – the Booklounge offers publishers everything they have always been looking for in Frankfurt: a central meeting-point at the end of the day to unwind and recharge. Guests will also become protagonists, as every evening another group of publishers is in charge of the musical entertainment. Friday is Indiecon Night with „Indiefun“.
