Among the diverse literary traditions of an island by no means lacking in literary talent, there is a special genre, that of poetic improvisation. In recent years, it has enjoyed a revival in popularity and energy, not just in Cuba but throughout Latin America. One of the most important protagonists on this literary scene is Alexis Díaz Pimienta.

Guest of Honour 2008 Turkey hands over the "GuestScroll" to China, the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2009. The ceremony will feature a reading with Turkish writer Gülten Akin and Chinese writer Zhang Jie.
